Sunbeams and Dust

I love the morning sunshine that beams its way into my house in the morning. It is so peaceful to see it. It makes me smile. The warmth of the sunbeams penetrate my home and bring me joy and peace.

Until it very clearly hi-lights every single speck of dust in my house and I cringe. I now see the flaws in my house. Dirt. Dust. Imperfections. Bleck!

My first inclination is to want to stop everything I am doing and clean, but then my mind kindly asks me,  “Why did you do that? You ruined our moment."

Good question. Why DO we look at something so beautiful and tear it apart so that we only see its flaws?

I self-sabotaged what should have been a very beautiful moment that God created. It WAS perfect, until I CHOSE to see its defects. It wasn’t supposed to be that way.

As women, especially, we do this every day. We look at our beautiful selves and hone in on the minuscule imperfections that we have and turn them into big things. We cringe when we look at them. We stop seeing our exquisiteness and splendor - the qualities we REALLY have - and instead focus on tiny “deficiencies” that we have magnified in our minds.

Rather than embracing the inherent beauty that is with all of us, we hide. We take a moment that is meant to be so beautiful and we obstruct and ravage it's appeal with our minds.

As people, we don’t take the time out of our days to appreciate the beautiful things and moments that come before us. Instead, we think about all of the things that went “wrong” in our day.

My wish for today is this:

That we take time to cherish those small moments in our days where there is beauty and peace.

That we start looking for things that are right instead of imperfections.

That we realize that we are God’s children and He made us. We are beautiful. Embrace our magnificence.

That we focus on what is good, true, right, noble, pure, and lovely. THOSE are the things we should be thinking about.

If our minds start to wander, that we quickly recognize our negative thinking and put an end to it. Immediately.

That we stop sabotaging those beautiful moments that God has created. Pause. Appreciate. Smile. Love.

May we BE the lights to others in this world.

That when we see something that IS beautiful in someone else, we tell them.

It is that simple. 💕
